Why It is Important To Ask and Keep Accurate Car Repair Records?

When you buy a car, you expect it will run within optimal parameters and will perform as mentioned in its product’s description. Unfortunately, things do not go always as we planned and after you have bought the car, you may notice some failures. If the car has been repaired three to four (or more) times for the same defect within the Warranty Period and the defect has not been fixed, the car qualifies as a Lemon. You should consult the Lemon Law Summary and the State Statutes for your particular state. California lemon law attorneys will represent your case if you face adversity from car dealers or manufacturers, but first, find out why it is important to ask and keep accurate car repair records.

A car is considered a lemon if it presents a defect which makes it inoperable. The car needs to be brought to a mechanic and fixed. Then comes the hardUntitled design (2) part: each state has its own legislation regarding the number of repair attempts and defect types. In most States, 10 different defects during the Warranty Period do not classify the car as a Lemon.   But repairing the car several times for the same defect would likely qualify as a lemon under the federal lemon law. In some States, even a single defect that might cause serious injury makes your car a lemon if the manufacturer cannot fix the problem within 1 attempt.

Create a repair log and document everything, especially repair bills and repair records. Obtain copies of any warranty repair order. When repairing the car, ask the mechanic to provide detailed descriptions of the failure and repair attempt. When you pick up the car, obtain an Invoice.  The final Invoice will show that the car was not repaired. Make sure the dealer records your complaint on the Repair Order. You must describe the defect exactly the same on each repair visit or you may forfeit your rights under the “reasonable attempts to repair for the same defect” clause.
